SH Bride Laura and her husband Michael held their wedding atop a picturesque cliff at the Gunners’ Barracks, located just out of Sydney in Mosman, NSW. Having purchased her gown at a Suzanne Harward trunk event, it is fitting that Laura encapsulates an ease known only the Sydney summer-time bride.
Names: Laura Armstrong & Michael Lubrano
Wedding date: 5th January, 2017
Ceremony & Reception Venue: Gunners’ Barracks – Mosman, NSW
How we met and the marriage proposal: We met at work more than 8 years ago through a mutual work colleague. We got along really well and after several post-work outings with our work friends, we decided it was about time we had a proper date. The rest is history!
Our proposal took place while we were on holidays in Exmouth, WA. Michael and I had spent the day out on the beautiful Ningaloo Reef – we went swimming with whale sharks and dolphins. Afterwards, we drove to a deserted beach where he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife – presenting me with a beautiful Colombian emerald ring.
About our wedding day: It was a truly amazing day – we had so much fun! It had been raining quite heavily and a couple of hours before the ceremony, the sun finally came out. I was initially very nervous, but as soon as I was looking down the aisle at Michael my nerves completely disappeared. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face!
We were very lucky to have a number of friends involved with running the day. One family friend married us, another was our MC and another friend created our beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements. The personal touches really made our day.
Our wedding style: Summery styling… We used ivory and watercolour pinks and blues, inspired by our stationery suite by The Distillery. My girlfriends helped me dip-dye more than 120 cotton napkins to tie in with the colour-scheme! We also made our own table number and menu holders from lengths of white-wash coated pine.
Finding my wedding gown: It might sound a bit cliche, but as soon as I tried the Hayworth gown I knew that it was THE dress! I’d tried on quite a few different gowns before visiting the Suzanne Harward trunk show in Sydney and this was the first one that just felt like ‘me’. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face while my mum and sisters shed a happy tear or two!
First dance song: It took us a really long time to choose our first dance song as we wanted it to be something that reflected both of our tastes in music whilst still being special. It needed to be first dance-worthy! We chose “You’re the One” by The Black Keys.
Advice for future couples: 1. There may be hiccups – don’t worry!
2. Your day really does go just as quickly as everyone tells you (if not, even faster) – enjoy every minute!
Couture experience at Suzanne Harward: It was wonderful! The girls were really knowledgeable and gave honest suggestions to help me find a dress that suited my style and body type. Carly and Marnee were so lovely to work with; they were responsive and accommodating, so organising fittings from interstate was never an issue. I would not hesitate to recommend Suzanne Harward to future brides!
